Students from Northview High School have soared to new heights. They've built a model rocket from scratch, and qualified for the world's largest rocket launching contest.

Eight students qualified to compete in the finals of the Team America Rocketry Challenge, held in The Plains, Virginia. The challenge is the world's largest model rocket contest.

The students had to follow strict guidelines while making a rocket that could shoot 750 feet into the air, land in 45 seconds, and parachute two raw eggs safely to the ground.

The students used a plastic baseball bat to make the rocket, and an old tablecloth for the parachute.

The Northview team is one of the top 100 high school teams in the nation. They will launch their rocket at 9:30 on Saturday morning.

The top ten teams will share a prize pool of $60,000.
